A good night with two traps provided large numbers of moths of 42 macro species. The high spot for us was this female Ghost Moth - the first we have caught in our valley. This Oak Hook-tip was also a pleasing catch.
Right, now go find the males lekking....or follow the smell of goat! Having little or no sense of smell this is a 'pleasure' I have yet to experience! ;-)
Well I found 3 lekking on Orkney but no smell that I could discern. They weren't swaying like a pendulum they were whizzing back and forth over very short grass but in a narrow space, trying to warm up as it was cold up there ?! Why is the Goat moth called that when its the Ghost that gives off the goat smell?
