Marbled White Spot

This very fresh Marbled White Spot was in our woodland moth trap this morning.  It appears to be a partial second generation moth.  Looking at its flight histogram in the new B.C. Atlas this moth has been recorded before in mid-September.

  1. This is the second Ceredigion record in September. The first was in the RIS trap at Tregaron on 12th September last year. This moth has been increasing in abundance recently: 53 records before 2000, 225 records 2000 to 2009, and 631 records 2010 to 2019. Some of the increase in numbers is due to increased interest and recording, but the atlas says it has increased in both distribution and abundance in the years 1970 to 2016.
