Five-spot Burnet

I've tentatively ID'd this as a Five-spot Burnet - one of the confluent variety I believe.

I'm also wondering if it may be Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet? There doesn't seem to be any border at all at the front of the wing (and you don't much narrower than that!)

Any ideas anyone? I've looked at photos on line but they don't make it any clearer for me...

  1. This is a Five-spot Burnet. It is very rare that the middle two spots are merged on Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet. Also I believe that the border referred to is the black border of the hindwing, but the difference between the species is slight.

  2. If it helps, I can send over to Tony a separation guide that me and Dave Wilton did a few years back. I find it helps a lot.
