What kind of moth was on Ronaldo's nose in Paris?

Apparently the stadium lights were left on the night before and the arena filled with moths, probably most of those in the paris region.

Crescent Dart

The garden trap on the night before last produced only 41 moths, 14 macros species and 9 micros, not great for early July. Most interesting was a Crescent dart which normally inhabits rocky coastline. We are only a couple of miles from the coast as the moth flies, but this is a first for the garden. The first county record came from Aberystwyth in 1938 and there has been 47 more records since then. Only one previous record was from an inland site, just up the valley from here at Bontgoch. Interestingly there were 11 records last year so I am hoping for some more this year.

Fforest, Tregaron

Ben Coleman, a moth-er from the Midlands, visited Fforest just south of Tregaron recently and has submitted some interesting records and photos. He has recorded 25 new species for the 10km square SN65 taking the total to 157, and 61 new species for the tetrad taking the total to 68. Here are some of his photos.

Small Yellow Wave

A rather cold and windy night in Aberystwyth with less moths than usual but we were pleased to catch our first ever Small Yellow Wave.

More from Rhos Llawr Cwrt

Well done Iestyn. The high spot of the day for us was our first Double Dart.  We were also impressed with the selection of pale Ingrailed Clays and on the afternoon walk  this Dark Giant Horsefly (Tabanus sudeticus) hidden in the damp grass.

Iestyn has sent us some more photos of the moths from Saturday at Rhos Llawr Cwrt. The day has inspired him to have a go at moth trapping, so we can look forward to more photos in the future.

Rhos Llawr Cwrt

The pic shows Elaine pointing to an escapee favouring Aline's Berghaus fleece.  David Woolley's hairstyle (front above) was an homage to the caterpillar of the  Garden Tigers we saw in the boggy meadows.
Super habitat and a hidden gem of Ceredigion so thankyou again to David for showing us around.
