Good variety last night, if low numbers (only two large yellow underwings!), in the garden trap. Highlights were a faded Dingy Shears, Pebble Hook-tip, Grey Arches and Herald.
Amazing, only the 4th county record for Dingy shears and all from Aberystwyth. Two records from Dr Salter in the early part of the last century and now two from you in 2013 and this year. Considering its foodplants are Willows, Sallows and Poplars in damp woodland, marshes, fens and river banks, it is a puzzle as to why it is so rare here.
