I find the smaller Geometers rather fidgety moths and not always easy to photograph. By the time they have settled, they are often in poor shape and rather bashed about. It was pleasing to take this one before too much damage had been done.
Nice photo David, Common marbled have been out for a while but Dark marbled should be starting now. Yours fits the main illustration in Waring & Townsend but these two species can be very confusing. They can be separated by inspecting the underside of the hindwing as detailed in that guide.
