We have added a short article to 'pages' regarding vernacular names of microlepidopter.
This was written by Steve Palmer (Lancs micro recorder), in answer to a question by a local moth-er in that county.
As I thought it may be of interest to those (us included) struggling to get to grips with the scientific names I asked if we could use it on the Ceredigion Blog.

That's a good article. And you hit the nail on the head. I use English names for macro-moths, because as a child that's what I learnt and so it stuck with me that way. The latin names have changed so frequently too and many are about to again. However, if you quote English names for micro-moths, I usually have no idea what species it is at all. I get lists from people here using English names for micros and I have to look them up using Bradley to find out what they are. There was an initial reluctance from my side to get involved with micros because of the latin naming, but in the end it is pretty easy with some practise. And the look of wonder at public events when you rattle off a string of micro names, is always fun.
