Talybont Garden - Brindled Beauty AGAIN

OK, does anyone want to see a rarity?
The other day I said we only ever get one Brindled Beauty a year in the garden, well last night we had 5.  I also said it would be good to get a Blossom Underwing, well we did!  I will put my thinking cap on now to see what else I would like to descend into the garden trap!
Seriously, not may species last night, unlike a certain person in Llanarth and you know who you are.
Powdered Quaker made it's first appearance here too.
Four photos of Brindled Beauty to show the variation.       Ina and Tony

Aberystwyth

With Streamer, Shoulder stripe, Mottled Grey and Muslin in the garden trap this morning, it's starting to feel a bit more exciting! Brindled Pugs also put on a good show (including the melanic form) and an early Common Pug.

Some interesting micros caught on my permitted perambulations: a couple of adult phyllonorycters  (probably sorbi and maestingella), a little ectoedemia, and mompha langiella. There are three bagworms (what I used to call Luffia ferchaultella) grazing on the house, and there were at least 50 on my favourite fence by the cemetery last weekend.

Talybont Garden C19 Lockdown

Well I had to use this title somewhere along the line!
As our garden is surrounded by LED lights, tarmac, another row of houses between us and the open, etc., we do not come across the greatest variety of species.  I have to tell you folks out there that following on from my last post...we have had another Brindled Beauty last night.  Quite definitely another as this one is in much better condition.
Just thirteen species plus a bumblebee, two sexton beetles Nicrophorus humator (smelly to his friends) and a lot of small flies.
I have added a photo of the variation in Common Quaker as I do sometimes receive ID requests for these.

Brindled Beauty

We don't get many Brindled Beauty in the garden, in fact we get one per year.
So this is the 2020 model I thought we should share with you all!

Scarlet Tiger

It looks like it could be a good year for Scarlet Tiger moths. I’ve counted at least a dozen caterpillars on some Comfrey in our garden, as well as one climbing up the wall of our house.

Full Moon brings out the Lunar Marbled Brown!

We cannot possibly compete with Pete, but a clear moonlit night produced a total of 26 moths (11 macro & two micro species) this morning.  These included firsts for this year: Lunar Marbled Brown, Engrailed and Herald.  Our near neighbour also found a Herald in her bike shed this morning.
