Green Carpet

From the garden moth trap last night: Common Marbled Carpet x 2; Green Carpet x 1 (later than its FS); Square-spot Rustic x 1; Black Rustic x 2; Green-brindled Crescent x 1; Merveille du Jour x 1; Red-line Quaker x 1; Lunar Underwing x 3; Epiphyas postvittana x 1; Eudonia angustea x 1.

  1. We recorded several very faded Green carpet moths in the second half of September but none so far in October. We had over 100 of them at Ynys-las on 6th September. The county records show that the first October records were in 1973 and 1976 and then in 1998. All these records were from Rothamsted traps. The next October record was in 2009 and every year since then. The number of records and number of individuals (given in brackets) for each year starting in 2009 are: 3 (4), 1 (1), 2 (2), 1 (1), 1 (1), 2 (2), 12 (19). Some of this recent increase must be due to increased trapping but warmer Autumns must also be playing a part.

  2. Thanks for the info, Tony. V. interesting.
