Mullein

This Mullein was in my moth trap this morning.  Although we have verbascum growing close by (and buddleia in the garden), I have never spotted any of the caterpillars on it.  I'll have to make sure I check for them later in the year.  (For details of Mullein records in Ceredigion, refer back to Simon's post and follow-up comments back in April.)

  1. Which Verbascum species do you have? They love V. thapsus (Great Mullein)more than any other and you can spot the holes and frass usually before the caterpillars

  2. Hi Peter. It's the V. thapsus which grows on a nearby road verge. I'll have to go check on it and see how it's doing.
